Do you know for Subaru Tribeca? It was three-row SUV raid in 2006 way way back . Sales rose slowly, and then quickly fell, vanishing in 2013 which was the last full year of production, when only 1,598 units were sold in dealerships. That left Subaru without access in the ultra-hot seven-passenger SUV market. That is supposed to change at the end of the year with the Ascent, which was presented at the New York auto show as the Ascent SUV concept.

Subaru has the Ascent a styling concept, with an general look that doesn’t go far from the producer’s corporate design that is already set. The grille, headlights and body lines all evocate to current Subaru models. It is expected for the inside to be changed the most before production; more traditional equipment will be probably placed instead the touchscreen window and lock controls and instrument panel.

The concept and production of Subaru Ascent will ride on a changed version of the Subaru Global Platform, which will get power  from an all-new turbocharged, direct-injected engine in Subaru’s favourite horizontally reversed position. Its lenght is 198.8 inches, width 78.3 inches and height 72.4 inches. Those dimensions put the Ascent straight in line with rivals like the Ford Explorer, Chevrolet Traverse and Mazda CX-9.

We don’t expect every detail before the Los Angeles auto show laat the end of the year when we see Ascent in its final look. Until then, try to forget the Tribeca — there will soon be a new three-row SUV in Subaru’s stable.
