A Honda Civic gifted to and driven by Max Verstappen, complete with signatures from the two-time champ, has headed for auction.

Verstappen has now firmly established himself as Formula 1’s driver to beat after a truly dominant 2022 campaign.

In a season where Red Bull claimed 17 of the 22 victories on offer, 15 of those went Verstappen’s way, setting a record for the most number of wins in a single season.

Wrapping up his second Drivers’ title at Honda’s home race, the Japanese Grand Prix, Verstappen built on his successes of 2021 in dominant fashion, having clinched his maiden Championship with a last-lap pass on Lewis Hamilton.

That was one of the most gripping and intense seasons that Formula 1 has witnesses, and when Verstappen was not going to battle in the Red Bull RB16B, he could sometimes be seen driving his Honda Civic Type-R GT during his spare time, gifted to him by Honda.

And courtesy of Catawiki, this car is now up for grabs via auction. Bidding opened on 9 December and will close on 19 December.

This Civic Type-R GT features the signature of Verstappen on both the dashboard and rear of the car, making it a truly special and unique piece of machinery.

It also holds an insurance certificate from Monaco and a full service history is available.

Although no reserve price has been set, Catawiki estimate the value of this car to be between €50,000 – €60,000.

Verstappen himself put this car up for sale at around the same time last year, with all proceeds going to the Wings for Life charity, co-founded by Red Bull’s late co-founder Dietrich Mateschitz.

The Civic Type-R GT can reach a top speed of 270 km/h and go from 0 to 60 in 5.8 seconds. The manual-transmission car has 58500 km on the clock.

Sander Houdel, car expert at Catawiki, said: “Max Verstappen is hugely popular and will go into history as one of the youngest and most talented drivers in the world. If this car is treated right, it has a big potential to increase its value over the years”.
