Here’s the price of 2018 Mercedes-AMG E63 wagon

The Mercedes-AMG E63 wagon is finally back on the market, having all the new updates.

Let’s start with the good stuff: The handcrafted 4.0-liter biturbo V8 makes 603 hp and 627 lb-ft of torque, making the E63 the quickest grocery-getter in the world with a sprint time of 3.4 seconds. That’s faster than a V8 Chevy Camaro, faster than a Mustang and faster than a Corvette. In fact, that time was reserved for cars like the Porsche 911 Turbo just a few years ago. It comes with Mercedes’ multiclutch nine-speed automatic and 4Matic all-wheel drive.

That AWD system features fully variable torque distribution between the front and rear axles using an electromechanically controlled coupling that reacts based on conditions and input. Mercedes notes, comically, that it is still possible to drift this wagon using a special drift mode on the E63 S. It activates when the vehicle is already in race mode and the ESP is deactivated. Drift mode remains engaged until the driver deactivates it or the ignition is turned off.

The wagon gets a new mulitchamber air suspension with continuously variable damping. It can be adjusted with the drive modes but also changes automatically “in response to sudden load changes.” Those drive modes also affect the engine response, transmission mapping, steering, ESP and all-wheel drive.

For stopping, the E63 Wagon uses six-piston calipers on 15.4-inch discs in front and single piston floating calipers on 14.2-inch discs in back. Carbon ceramics are optional.

Inside, the wagon gets Mercedes’ dual-12.3-inch display with classic, sport and progressive modes, carbon fiber gauges and an AMG Performance steering wheel.

This vehicle is more a status symbol

Nearly a quarter of E63 Wagon customers are located between New York and Boston, and another 22 percent of customers live in California: In other words, this is more a status symbol.

The 2018 E63 Wagon will set you back about $108,000 including destination, but that comes standard with Nurburgring bragging rights. It clocked a 7-minute, 45.19-second around the famous “Green Hell,” which puts it just behind the kickass Mercedes SLS AMG.
