FR-S will be renamed in 2017 to Toyota 86
Since on New York auto show was not sure how the youth oriented car will be named, in the meanwhile automaker decided to change not only the name of the vehicle from FR-S into Toyota 86, but also the face lift.
Most of the changes will occur in the front of the car. The front bumper has a softer form in certain parts, and the folds below the main headlights were corrected in the way that shows more prominent. Horizontal bars now cover the vents in positions where the fog lights used to be. The shape of the front grille is now more open and different compared to the previous model.

The front valance also have a new form, now more curved with two lugs which serve as an 86 ‘s teeth to look more threatening. Headlights are now with accented on LED, a logo is printed on the outside of the housings.
Among the changes from the side, 86 will have new set of multi spoke wheels, boxer badge is not on the top part of the fender any more, and gains a new shape of the vent. The badge on the fender is now in red color, without piston elements of the original design, moved on the bottom part. The posterior will have new LED back lights and still without spoilers.
Unlike the Scion, steering wheel of 86 will have the badge positioned in the center, with audio controls integrated into the wheel. Pioneer touchscreen from the 2016 Scion FR-S will be steel used for the 86, and reserved camera will still be standard.
The previous Toyota models Scion FR-S and Subaru BRZ, was the models for an excellent drivers who likes an agile, giving it big-fish appeal in a relatively small pond of affordable sports cars. However, the sale of those models was going down from year to year after its introduction. Time will show will the new improvements in the appearance of the renamed model will bring a better luck to the producer.
