Ford revealed another racing vehicle for the Mustang. Ford Mustang GT4 race car is presented today at the 2016 SEMA show. Producer says that is based on the Shelby GT350 R-C Mustang racer. That vehicle has just finished its first year of racing in a number of North American series (under Multimatic Motorsports) with some podium finishes safely achieved.
The Mustang GT4 is qualified for races in series around the world also with the European GT4 and Pirelli World Challenge. It’s getting power from a 5.2-liter V-8. Ford won’t say how much power the engine can make. But the eight-cylinder mill is tuned to make 526 hp and 429 lb-ft of torque in the production GT350 and GT350R. Changing speed is done with a six-speed sequential gearbox (the GT350 R-C has a six-speed manual).
Other mods accentuated in the Mustang GT4 involve roll cage, rear diffuser and fixed rear spoiler. Also a suspension tuned by Multimatic Motorsports.
Ford took the opportunity to show off its upcoming Ford Performance App
Ford took a chance to show off its upcoming Ford Performance App too. That app allows buyers to become obsessive with their track day data. The app is based on smartphone links. It has the Ford SYNC 3 infotainment system to add performance data and timing stats. Also uses the phone’s camera to record video. Ford says the app will come with the Ford GT before other models get it.
