Hamilton is without a win from the first three Grands Prix and, looking further back to 2017, has just one victory from the last seven races. Mercedes’ last win as a team came from Valtteri Bottas in Mexico, six races ago. Still, Hamilton trails Ferrari’s Sebastian Vettel by just nine points in the standings.
“We’re still the same team as in previous years”
“We’ve definitely made a step forwards, but they’ve made a bigger leap,” said Hamilton of his rivals. “We’re still the same team as in previous years, and I believe that we can battle it out with these guys but now we’ve got Red Bull at their best and Ferrari at their best so if we are able to pull through and deliver as we have in previous years, it will be, I think, the biggest achievement this team has ever accomplished.”
Currently sitting second in the championship, Hamilton is on a run of 28 consecutive points finishes — breaking the previous record of 27 set by Kimi Raikkonen.
