Audi is maybe quitting the World Endurance Championship but that doesn’t neccessarily mean it will be closed off to other forms of motorsport. The producer also contests in the German touring vehicle series DTM and is attached to the coming season of the Formula E Championship. It seems that Audi will also be contesting at World Rallycross Championship.

Ekström also contest in DTM for Audi

The four-ring brand is in team with ruling  World RX champion EKS for this year season. Swedish rally driver Mattias Ekström leads EKS and last year secured both the Drivers’ and Teams’ titles, using an Audi S1-based rally car. Ekström also contest in DTM for Audi.

While EKS already had approach to Audi’s past suppliers and partners, the next technical development of the S1 rally vehicle is now taking place with support from Audi’s official motorsport department, Audi Sport.

“We laid a lot of groundwork as a team in the first three years, gathered important experiences and set new standards with EKS,” Ekström said in statement. “But it was also clear to us that we’d need support for the future in order to be able to continue on this level.”

The first round of this year World RX season will happen in Barcelona, Spain from April 1-2. Other producers in the sport the same way, include Citroën, Ford Motor Company

[NYSE:F], Peugeot and Volkswagen.
